Projects

Aguipo Heritage Project was born out of a dream.  A dream to pass something worthwhile, meaningful and memorable to our children, and to our children’s children… thus a Heritage Project.

WHY and WHY NOW?  Perhaps this quote from Marnie Simeon Malicse describes well our motivation in pursuing these projects:

…let’s think about how we change the world…

Aguipo has a special place in my heart.  I grew up here and I taught at the elementary school.  I am the daughter of farmers and teachers, Patricio and Zosina Simeon.  Year after year I come home… and the last time I was here, it struck me that not much has changed.  Life is pretty much the same, except that many have stopped attending school or have left for other places to look for jobs.  I only see mostly young ones (children) and seniors (young once).  In fact, there were only 11 at pre-school.  There used to be as many as 60 in a class.  I wonder how many will graduate from 6th grade.  Without pupils, eventually some grades in our elementary school will be closed.

What will happen then?  Does it have to be this way?

Loboc has done something creative – taking an ordinary river and turning it extraordinary.  Loboc is now a sight to see.  A town that once had an annual income of only ₱40,000.00, now brings in nearly ₱40,000,000.00 from tourism, not to mention the jobs it provides for the people of Loboc and Bohol.  Imagine Aguipo making this kind of impact… or more.

Can we do this in Aguipo, too?  YES, I absolutely believe that we can.  It has also been my dream for a long time to keep Aguipo attractive, not only to its residents but to visitors as well… for its beauty, its people and as a pilgrimage destination.  These projects start to pave the way in uplifting the economic conditions of our people.

                                                                                                                                                               – Marnie Simeon Malicse

This started out as Marnie’s dream.  Her husband, Terry Malicse, and daughter, Sheelah Malicse wanted the same dream.  The community wanted to be part of that dream.  So did friends and family.  Today, this dream is OUR dream together – OUR meaning, not yours, not mine – but “ato.”  OUR DREAM.
