Where in the world is Aguipo? It’s in Mabini, Bohol, Philippines…
Bohol is a province (think of it like a state) and an island all on its own in the central region of the Philippines called the Visayas Region. Philippines has 7,107 islands – during low tide! The country is broken into 3 main regions: Luzon (north), Visayas (central), Mindanao (south). There are over 120 dialects – many are as different as Spanish and Chinese. The dialects in the central region generally sound similar – think of it like English: British, American, Australian, Irish, Jamaican… Similar yet different but you might understand each other. Collectively these dialects in the Visayas region is called Bisaya. There is no “v” in the Filipino alphabet, so Visayas become Bisaya.
Bohol is a bisaya word that means “round.” And guess why the province is named as such?! Because the island is round!!!
