14 Stations Pilgrimage Area

“Mutong Habug,” pronounced Moo-tong Ha-boog, literally means “high mountain.”  It’s quite high to get to the peak – about 200 steps high.  OK, so perhaps it’s more of a hill.  Nevertheless, however it got its name, who knows.  Call it a hill, call it a mountain, call it Mt View Park.  That’s its other name.  A place where locals go to admire the surrounding beauty, the viewing deck at the peak of Mutong Habug gives one a 360º canvas of exquisite nature’s landscaping…  from mountains to forests to rice fields to the ocean to nearby islands,…

What better place to develop the View Park Pilgrimage Area than on Mutong Habug and the plateau leading to it!   As part of a collective project called “Aguipo Heritage Project,” the View Park Pilgrimage Area’s “14 Stations of the Cross” was started on March 1, 2014.   In less than a month, professionals, volunteers and the community – including children, labored to realize this sacred dream!  These initiatives were done at the same time as the buildout of the Earth House & Emergency Shelter.

Visitors and devotees have been paying homage even during construction.  Spread out on the plateau of Mutong Habug, the 14th Stations of the Cross area has grottos landscaped with natural-wood looking steps.  Each Station is unique, with artwork depicting Jesus and Mary’s journey and a letter in every station spelling out J-E-S-U-S-C-H-R-I-S-T-W-A-Y.

Soon To Come:  A Rosary Garden with stepping stones marking each bead in a bigger than lifesize rosary and a Redeeming Christ Statue are in the works.

The development of a Pilgrimage Area in Aguipo was conceptualized and realized by Marnie Simeon Malicse (former resident, always a resident-at-heart) and her family along with the local community.  Find out how this came about at aguipo.com/projects

The View Park Pilgrimage Area is located in Aguipo, Mabini, Bohol, Philippines.
