Statue Contest at Aguipo Fiesta April 4, 2016
IMAGE/STATUE CONTEST ON
THE FEAST DAY SR SAN VICENTE FERRER
OBJECTIVES:
- To rekindle our appreciation of saints and to remind ourselves how they became models of our church, our people, ourselves.
- To inspire creativity and a sense of community.
- To contribute to the development of the Museum of Saints at San Vicente Ferrer Chapel, Aguipo, Mabini, Bohol, Philippines.
PERIOD OF CONTEST:
Acceptance of entries will start February 14, 2016 and ends on April 3, 2016, where the statue will be displayed for judging in the museum.
Final Judging will be made after the procession and winners will be announced at the evening program on April 4, 2016.
GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA:
- The statue may be made of any material, such as wood, cement, stone, marble, shells, plaster of paris, leaves, twigs, bark, etc.
- Size must be at least the same size as the original San Vicente Ferrer of Aguipo statue, up to a maximum of 5 feet tall.
- The statue will represent known saints, like, San Vicente Ferrer of the participant’s choice.
- Statue could be newly created, acquired, purchased or an existing statue in their homes/chapels as their entries.
- All the entries will be displayed in the Museum of Saints in San Vicente Ferrer Chapel in Aguipo, Mabini, Bohol, as an exhibit in the museum. Each statue will become their contribution to the permanent exhibit where their names and work will be displayed and forever be remembered.
- Prizes will be given to the first three major winning entries with more consolations prices.
BACKGROUND STORY:
All entries must have an accompanying description to include:
- the name of the saint
- story of the saint’s life and what made him/her a saint
- for what is he/she a patron saint… or what does this saint intercess or advocate
- why did you choose this saint as an entry
- what can people today learn from the value that is lived by the life of this saint
- name and address (at least city and province) of donor
JUDGING OF ENTRIES:
All entries will be displayed in the Museum of Saints until the procession on April 4, 2016 where the donor and/or their representatives will carry the saint in the procession and brought back to the museum for final judging. Announcement of the winners and awarding of prizes will be in the evening program of April 4.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Innovation and Creativity
- Filipiniana incorporated into the design
- Impact and value of the story of the saint
- Quality and finish of visual structure / image
EXAMPLES OF ENTRIES:
Any image of a saint such as
- Jesus: Jesus crucified, with the Children, with Joseph the Carpenter, with the blind man, Fisherman, etc.
- Mary: at Annunciation, the Madonna, with Elizabeth, Lady of Sorrow, Fatima, etc.
- San Vicente Ferrer
- San Miguel Archangel
- San Agustin
- San Pedro Calungsod
- St. Jude
- St. Lorenzo Ruiz
- St. Therese
- St. Monica
- St. Anne
- St. Joaquin
- Mother Theresa
- St. Francis of Assisi
- St. Christopher
- etc.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
Anyone with a Filipino Heritage, residing anywhere in the world, who would like to join the contest. The entry may be represented by a family or individual of any age. The statue may be acquired, purchased, created, or owned.
PRIZES:
Prizes to the first three major winning entries with more consolations prices will be awarded during the fiesta celebration of Señor San Vicente Ferrer of Aguipo, Mabini, Bohol, Philippines on April 4, 2016.
